Hack for LA 2014

Hack for LA 2014 will take place on May 31 - June 1 at City Hall in Los Angeles, along with the #TechLA Conference. 

Saturday May 31

8:00 AM  City Hall open for coffee/ networking.  Please arrive early, kickoff begins promptly at 9:30.

9:30 AM  Hack for LA and #TechLA Kickoff - Los Angeles City Hall 3rd Floor, City Council Chambers.

10:00 AM - 7 PM  Hacking!  City Hall 10th Floor

  • 10:30 - 11 AM  - Team formation - 30 second idea pitches
  • 11 AM - 11:30 AM  Socrata/ LA ITA presentation on Data.LACity.org
  • 11:30 - Noon  ESRI Tech workshop
  • Noon - 12:30 - Intel/ Mashery

10:00 AM - 2 PM  #TechLA conference / Tech and Job Fair - 3rd Floor City Hall

Sunday June 1

9:00 AM - 3:00 PM  More Hacking!  City Hall 10th Floor

2:30 PM - All teams must be registered on our Hack for LA Supermassive Page to be considered for judging. Teams must register their project, description, and visuals by 2:30 PM on Sunday here: https://www.suprmasv.com/hackforla.  Judges may decide to limit the number of teams that present at the finals to 20, so your submission should have enough detail and information to show the judges that your app deserves to be in the finals.

3:00 - 4:00 PM  Judges review and select top 20 teams to present.

4:00 - 6:00 PM  Presentations and Judging - Ronald F. Deaton Civic Auditorium, in LAPD Police Administration Building, 100 West First Street (just across the street from City Hall)

6:00 PM  Afterparty - walking distance from Police Auditorium.

Parking for registered Hackers will be available at City Hall east for those with a parking pass (sent via email to registered participants).  Parking is first-come, first-served and NOT guaranteed.

To get ready for the hackathon, you can post your idea here and see if others are interested in working on it.

We Supply: Quick presentations and data samples that help to bootstrap your hacking, food to keep you going, and caffeine to keep you awake, along with technical mentors to assist you in building faster and smarter apps while incorporating new tools. We’ll also have specific civic data challenges that you can work on as part of a team.

You Bring: Your laptop, skills,  ideas, and enthuaism for civic change. Come with a collaborative, team-focused mindset and/or team up in advance on Twitter/Facebook via @HackforLA. Whether you are a backend person and code in Ruby/PHP/.NET or a designer and work with Illustrator, a student, or a data geek you are invited to attend this event. Every group needs a good balance of talent and your development skills are needed!

    roboQ is celebrating Hack for LA 2014 by offering a free robotics workshop at LFCSA on May 29th. Maybe next year we will bring a group of students to compete!
