Join Hack for LA, in partnership with the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City of Los Angeles Information Technology Agency, for our 2016 National Day of Civic Hacking Celebration!
Here in Los Angeles (and in cities across the country with Promise Zones) we will be putting our local technology and data visualization talent to work helping the LA Promise Zone. When the White House and Code for America ask, we answer! The Promise Zone Initiative is part of the President’s plan to expand access to opportunity in high poverty communities across the country.
The LA Promise Zone is a collective impact project involving leaders from government, local institutions, non-profits and community organizations that targets resources to create jobs, boost public safety, improve public education and stimulate better housing opportunities for our residents and neighborhoods. The Promise Zone is located within Central Los Angeles and includes the neighborhoods of Hollywood, East Hollywood, Koreatown, Pico Union and Westlake. Learn more at lapromisezone.org
For this year’s Hack for LA event, we’re asking LA’s civic technologists to create data visualizations that tell the story of what's happening in our Promise Zone. Help us design visualizations and analyze data that can show Promise Zone progress over the years! Never worked with either before? We’ll have workshops to help get you started. We also have an app challenge: build something to help organizations in the Promise Zone collaborate more effectively.
